“Twelve Gates Arts” refers to the giant gates that would have guarded the entrance of cities of the ancient world such as Delhi, Lahore, Jerusalem, and Rhodes. It’s the gallery’s mission to highlight the work of South Asian diasporic art, and its latest exhibit was the group show “First There Was a Sea,” which sought out the intersection of race and religion in relation to the diaspora. Among other themes and inspirations in their work, collaborating artists Aaron Cohick, Divya Victor, Priyanka Dasgupta, Chad Marshall, Utsa Hazarika, and Baseera Khan explored architecture and the built environment, textiles, and travel—migration in particular. //
